Martyr’s trial recreated and debated

A dramatisation of the 1528 trial of Patrick Hamilton, the first martyr of the Scottish Reformation, is being staged in St Andrews, where he was convicted of being a heretic and burned at the stake.

The free event, at the Byre Theatre, St Andrews, from 7pm tomorrow (6 May) will also include a debate about the issues from Hamilton’s case which remain relevant today.

Discussing those issues will be Sheriff Lorna Drummond QC, Angela Wilson, former Tayside Police assistant chief constable, and barrister Harry Potter, of 25 Bedford Row.
