And finally… animal farm

Police have arrested five people over children’s books with pictures of sheep and wolves, claiming they are seditious.

Hong Kong senior superintendent Steve Li told a press conference that the books attempt to simplify “political issues not comprehensible by children” and to “beautify illegal behaviour.”

The five were arrested for “conspiring to publish seditious publications” under section 10 of the Crimes Ordinance.

Li claimed the first book, Guardians of the Sheep Village, compares sheep to residents of Hong Kong and the wolves to the mainland Chinese.

“The book also introduced that the sheep had to use their horns to attack. A sheep is such a kind-hearted animal, and they [producers of the book] have to say that it has some attack ability, and has to commit some violent acts.”

Book two, 12 Warriors of the Sheep Village, attempts to incite hatred against the judicial system in Hong Kong, Li said, as it states 12 sheep will be killed for taking part in a defensive war.

The third book, Dustman of the Sheep Village, states that “the sheep were very clean and the wolves were very dirty,” according to Li.

“It implied that some viruses were brought in this way,” the senior superintendent added.
