BTO offers free will consultation

BTO’s wills and estates team is offering a free 20-minute consultation and dedicated helpline to help people put their affairs in order in light of the coronavirus pandemic.

Ross Brown, head of BTO’s wills and estates team in Glasgow, said: “We are acutely aware that the coronavirus is the cause of great concern to many of our clients for a range of reasons.

“This is a time when we need to look after ourselves and to protect those around us and this is likely to involve making sure that all necessary legal mechanisms in relation to our personal affairs are in place.”

Mr Brown added: “We are able to offer advice regarding wills and what steps should now be taken to create one or to make sure that existing arrangements are up to date.”

“Putting a power of attorney in place has been another frequent request at this time to ensure that the right people have the power to make decisions about our clients’ finances and welfare in the event that they are unable to do so themselves.”

As face-to-face meetings are no longer an option, the firm has established a dedicated helpline (0141 225 4855) which is manned by the team in Glasgow and Edinburgh. The team is also able to answer any questions about inheritance tax, personal tax, trusts, and the administration of deceased estates.

Lynn Melville, head of the team in Edinburgh, said: “Our solicitors are available to discuss any legal worries and to offer support at a time when it may be needed the most. The offer of a free consultation is open to new and existing clients, so please do not hesitate to get in touch with us.”

BTO’s wills and estates team can also be contacted via email at wills@bto.co.uk and video-conferencing facilities are available.
