Donald Reid elected Dean of Royal Faculty of Procurators in Glasgow

The Faculty, which has existed since before 1668, represents most legal practitioners in Greater Glasgow. Mitchells Roberton is equally venerable, tracing its involvement in Scottish legal affairs back to the 1700s.

Mr Reid, who attended school in Glasgow and graduated in law from the University of Glasgow, joined Mitchells Roberton in 1976. He was made a partner in 1978 and elected chairman of the firm in 1997.

He is a specialist in property law dealing mainly in commercial transactions, security work and property related company matters. He is listed in the Law Society of Scotland’s approved Expert Witness Directory relative to professional negligence claims.

Mr Reid lectured and tutored on the diploma in legal practice qualification for 20 years, speaks widely at professional seminars and conferences, and has contributed articles and chapters to various journals and publications.

He said: “I have three aspirations over the two years of my Deanship: first, to be available to my hard pressed fellow practitioners to offer support and assistance where they feel they have nowhere to turn; second, to make legal support more available to vulnerable and under-resourced sections of the community; and third, to persuade my fellow professionals that the Royal Faculty of Procurators can make a positive contribution to legal practice.”

Austin Lafferty, senior partner of his own law practice Austin Lafferty Limited, has been elected by members of the Royal Faculty as Vice Dean.
