Edinburgh students host inaugural 'Justice for All' conference

Some of Scotland’s leading solicitors, advocates, campaigners and human rights groups will take part in a student-run law conference at Edinburgh University this month.

‘Justice for All’ will examine the relationship between law and the common good, as well as considering opportunities for legal reform. The conference, which takes place on Sunday 17th February, is free to attend and open to all.

Speakers include Andrea Coomber, UK Director of JUSTICE, Jonathan Mitchell QC, Fiona McPhail, principal solicitor Shelter Scotland, and human rights lawyer Aamer Anwar.

Law student and conference organiser Michael Gray told Scottish Legal News: “It’s exciting to bring together a diverse array of people who care about justice in Scotland.

“In contrast to the view that law is predominantly a system for administration and commercial management, this conference demonstrates that law is closely linked to matters of social change and human rights.

“We hope that this event can provide a platform for future events like this at Edinburgh.”

Registration and the full conference programme is available on Eventbrite.
