Face off: Barrister fined for making faces at judge

A barrister has been fined £1,000 for making faces at a judge and criticising one of her decisions as “insane”.

A finding from the Bar Tribunals & Adjudication Service stated that, over a three-month period in 2016, Marguerite Russell, who called in 1972, behaved in a “rude and unprofessional manner” towards the judge, while she acted as defence counsel.

She is said to have failed to sit down when the judge told her and to have said “this is ridiculous” after a ruling was given following a submission she had made.

She was reprimanded and fined for her behaviour.
