Faculty to host free IP conference next month

The Faculty of Advocates is to present its eighthWorld Intellectual Property Day Conference and is expecting once again to have to post the “Full House” signs.
The free event will be held on Friday, 24 April, and those wishing to attend are being encouraged to register soon to avoid disappointment.
World IP Day – 26 April – was established in 2000 by the Geneva-based World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) to promote discussion of the role of intellectual property in encouraging innovation and creativity.
“Since then, World IP Day has offered a unique opportunity each year to join with others around the globe to consider how IP contributes to the flourishing of music and the arts and to driving the technological innovation that helps shape our world,” said WIPO.
The Faculty’s conference has proved popular in the past and this year it will again be chaired by advocate Roisin Higgins, an IP law specialist, and Graeme McWilliams, legal adviser at Standard Life.
Speakers will be Carolyn Jameson, director, General Counsel of Skyscanner, and Natalie Usher, director of film and media at Creative Scotland.
Ms Higgins said: “We are delighted to be able to stage this event for the eighth year running and are very much looking forward to hearing what our speakers have to say about the challenges posed, and opportunities offered, by IP rights in both business and the arts today.”
