Lawyers of Tomorrow – Sam Boyce

Congratulations to Sam Boyce on being so quick off the mark and becoming the first entry in our new Lawyers of Tomorrow slot. Sam’s succinct piece is a good example of the style of entry we are looking for.

I am a recent LLB (Hons) graduate from the University of Glasgow; I have secured a place to study the Diploma in Legal Practice (also at Glasgow) which will commence shortly and am seeking a traineeship commencing in 2018.

I obtained a very strong 2:1 and my degree transcript proves I have the skill set and ability to be a highly competent, diligent legal practitioner. I would relish the opportunity to make this a reality with a traineeship with the right firm.

From the first day of my degree until presently, I have also worked as a retail manager for a large company, which has taught me a range of skills that I would seek to transfer into my legal career (cost control, an acute awareness of financial targets, HR issues as well as training skills).

I have also gained invaluable practical experience developing my interpersonal skills, both with colleagues and clients as a result.  Additionally, I have experience mooting in Glasgow High Court before sheriffs and have undertaken a number of placements with firms of varying size to gain exposure to the realities of practice life.

I would gratefully consider any areas of practice, although I am particularly interested in immigration and asylum, social welfare law, criminal law and personal injury.
