Lawyers with disabilities or chronic illnesses sought for new study

Lawyers who are physically disabled or have a chronic illness and are entering or who have successfully entered the legal profession are encouraged to participate in a new study.

Dundee Law School PhD student Rachael Wallace is undertaking a study which aims to examine whether the Equality Act 2010 is working in the real world and to uncover the enablers and barriers that disabled graduates encounter on their journey into the profession and beyond.

As part of the study, Ms Wallace will conduct a one-hour interview via Microsoft Teams with participants.

The criteria for the study are:

  1. the participant must have a physical disability or chronic illness;
  2. the participant must live and work in Scotland and have graduated from a Scottish university;
  3. the participant must be entering/have entered the legal profession.

Ms Wallace is also looking for a representative from the Law Society of Scotland to interview on the topic of widening access to the profession for disabled people. Again, this would be for a 1-hour interview via Microsoft teams.
