Legal Entrepreneurs Breakfast Club gets off to a flying start-up

Ten business-minded solicitors gathered at Harper Macleod’s Glasgow office for the start-up meeting of the Legal Entrepreneurs’ Breakfast Club last week.

The Breakfast Club was set up by HM Connect, a support and referral network for law firms in Scotland, to help unlock the entrepreneurial vision of the next generation of legal business leaders.

The Chatham House Rule applied as the group shared experiences of their own pathways through the legal profession and discussed the purpose and structure of this new networking group for lawyers.

It was agreed that the group’s aim should be to establish a forum for lawyers to discuss the challenges and issues associated with the business of law with like-minded people.

Group members are encouraged to come forward with questions or problems that they are facing and to use the Legal Entrepreneurs’ Club as a place to bounce ideas off others and to seek opinions on business decisions.

The group will aim to provide an opportunity to develop the necessary non-legal skills to thrive in the current legal market and to build the members’ network of legal professionals. It has also established itself as being a safe space within which to share experiences and to offer and seek support that may otherwise be lacking for legal entrepreneurs at all levels or those under the pressure of heading up a law firm.

As well as setting out plans for the future of the group, members discussed the ongoing difficulties with staffing and recruitment that some firms are facing and shared advice on how to deal with live employment issues being experienced by attendees.

The Legal Entrepreneurs’ Breakfast Club is will take place on a quarterly basis with exact date of the next meeting to be confirmed. Numbers are limited but if you or someone within your firm might benefit from a legal networking group dealing with the business issues of lawyers please email hello@hmconnect.co.uk to reserve a place.
