MacRoberts has won a place on the highly competitive legal panel for SSE plc.

SSE opened the tender for its legal panel roster in September of last year and 40 firms applied to take part in the procurement process. Following extensive review, MacRoberts joins Dentons, DLA Piper, and TLT as new panel members alongside existing panel firms Addleshaw Goddard, CMS, Freshfields and Gillespie Macandrew, who were successful in being re-appointed.

The new panel runs until March 2023.

The panel reflects the energy company’s need for both full service and specialist advisers throughout both their regulated and unregulated businesses, with firms appointed covering specialist areas within commercial, property and contentious matters.

SSE deputy general counsel, Stuart Waddell said: “After an extensive review of its UK legal panel, SSE can today confirm the appointment of nine firms to provide legal support to its business operations.”

“We had significant interest in the panel and believe that we have found a strong combination of firms to support the SSE businesses. The key objective in establishing the new panel was to appoint firms that not only deliver excellence in service, but which also reflect SSE’s values and support SSE’s ambition to deliver the low carbon infrastructure needed to help the UK reach net zero emissions.”

Following the announcement MacRoberts’ managing partner, Neil Kennedy said: “We are pleased to have been appointed as advisers to SSE after an extremely competitive tender process. It is always encouraging to have our legal expertise recognised, but perhaps even more rewarding in this instance as this has been acknowledged in the context of the firm’s core values, and our commitment to the environment and community in which we operate.”
