Man jailed for threatening to 'rise from the dead' and kill sheriff

A man has been imprisoned for threatening that he would rise from the dead and kill a sheriff.

Becklyn Mindjou, 27, was found guilty of various charges, among them breach of the peace, by Sheriff Gerard Bonnar at Glasgow Sheriff Court on March 29.

Slamming his hand on the dock, Mr Mindjou shouted “Are you the judge?” before announcing: “I will rise from the dead and I will kill you”.

However, he was remanded in custody following the trial, The Herald reports.

He was convicted yesterday in the same court of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner and of threatening to kill the sheriff, to the fear and alarm of others.

The trial was conducted in his absence.

Sheriff Kenneth Hogg said this was in case of “any potential behaviour” and was a measure taken to actually ensure a fair trial.

He was, however, brought into court to hear his sentence, at which time he shouted at the sheriff and again slammed his hand on the dock but remained silent as he was told he would be jailed for 296 days.

Defence counsel Edith Forrest said there was “little to say in mitigation” and that it was in the interests of justice Mr Mindjou was in court for sentencing.
