Popular chief executive and public servant Michael Brown has passed away at the age of 73, The Courier reports.
An Aberdeen University law graduate, Mr Brown held a succession of legal posts in Scotland before becoming director of administration in Dundee District Council.
In 1987 he returned to Lancashire to lead Wyre Borough Council, a post he occupied for 15 years.
Friend and former colleague Brian Rowe said: “The untimely death of Michael Brown will be a great sadness to his former colleagues.
“Michael was a popular chief executive with councillors and staff. His impressive presence, openness to all staff and sense of humour were recognised and appreciated by all who worked with him.
“He led the staff through a period when Wyre became, and remained, one of the most innovative and respected local authorities in the north-west.”
