Scottish Rugby head coach Gregor Townsend MBE was the special guest at Thorntons LLP’s annual Sports Challenge Dinner in Dundee earlier this year, which raised £58,932 for charity.

The impressive sum will be shared between Scottish children’s charities Children’s Aid Scotland and The Yard, with a special donation of £10,000 going to the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation.

Each year the ‘Question of Sport’ style event, organised by Thorntons Solicitors and Thorntons Investment Management Ltd, aims to raise thousands for charity and 2019 marks a record year for fundraising.

Colin Graham, Thorntons’ chairman, said: “In the past six years that we’ve hosted this event, we’ve raised more than £200,000 for children’s charities across Scotland. Our 2019 event was a huge success once again with a premier presenting line-up and marks our biggest fundraising total from the event to date.

“A big thank you to everyone who attended and donated on the night, I trust the funds donated will make a great impact to our chosen charities.”

Long running beneficiaries of the Sport Challenge Dinner are Children’s Aid which donates money to a variety of children’s charities across Scotland and The Yard, which provides adventure play services for disabled children and their families.

Celine Sinclair, chief executive at The Yard, said: “The Yard Dundee is very fortunate to have the ongoing support of Thorntons and the Sports Challenge Dinner. Their fundraising efforts mean we can support many more local disabled children and their families with opportunities to play, be creative, have adventures and make friends.”
