Peter Gray QC pedals up support for COVID bereavement appeal
Peter Gray QC has raised more than £5,600 for charity after he cycled 200 miles in less than 24 hours in support of the National Bereavement Partnership COVID-19 Hub Response Appeal.
Mr Gray, 60, undertook the outdoors static cyclathon from his back garden in Trinity, Edinburgh to raise much-needed funds for the charity.
He said before the event: “Is the solo cyclathon going to be a challenge? Well, I am 60, I have never cycled more than half a dozen times a year in the last 40, there has been virtually no training and the weather is not looking great; 200 miles in under 24 hours seems rather daunting at this precise moment!”
The National Bereavement Partnership COVID-19 Hub provides a helpline to all individuals who need to speak to someone when their loved ones may be ill in hospital or have sadly died from COVID-19. The hub provides support online and via telephone, chatrooms, social media, broadcast and printed materials, aiming to prevent and alleviate the mental impact and distress suffered by those affected by the disease, directly or indirectly.
Richard Lissack QC, chairman of the hub, said: “It is beyond doubt that we will be changed as a society by what we are presently all living through. But for some this time of collective claustrophobic confinement is made much, much worse by reason of also having to live with the reality of bereavement compounded by all the restrictions under which we are living at present.
“Our team of highly-skilled volunteers with the appropriate qualifications and skills sets are available to listen to those in need of specialist support and advice to just get through. We are so thankful for people’s generous support and have been delighted with their kind responses.”
