Rare legal prints aim to raise £25,000 for Lawscot Foundation

Fine art prints of British artist Stephen McClean’s paintings of the exterior and interior of Edinburgh’s iconic Parliament Hall are to be published and signed by the Lord President to raise funds for the Lawscot Foundation.

In a unique collaboration between legal art publishers Hanna Fine Art and the Faculty of Advocates, the two images of the landmark building have each been published in a limited edition of only 250 prints – every one of which has been individually hand-signed and numbered by Lord Carloway and the artist, to create a rare and historic Scottish legal collectable.

To preserve the value and rarity of the print, it will be available exclusively to members of the Scottish legal profession and no further prints will ever be published or signed outside the editions of only 250 hand-signed prints, which aims to raise a total of £25,000 for the Lawscot Foundation.

Lord Carloway

Lord Carloway, who is a former president of the Scottish Arts Club said: “When I was approached by Paul Hanna of Hanna Fine Art I was happy to agree to support this opportunity to help raise funds for a worthy charity by signing the prints. The Lawscot Foundation assists students from less-advantaged backgrounds to pursue a legal education. I was particularly pleased to support a project that combines legal study and artistic creativity. The two prints complement one another in capturing the elegance of Parliament Hall in a style that is impressionistic.”

Dean of Faculty, Roddy Dunlop QC, commented: “The Faculty already supports the valuable work of the Lawscot Foundation and is delighted to support this latest initiative which aims to raise a further £25,000. Hanna Fine Art is to be commended for capturing the essence of the historic Parliament Hall, whilst at the same time providing much needed funds for an organisation aimed at increasing diversity in the profession.”

Christine McLintock, chair of the Lawscot Foundation, thanked Hanna Fine Art, Lord Carloway and the Faculty for their support of the Foundation and said: “The Foundation is honoured to be the nominated charity for this initiative. The Covid 19 pandemic has had a significant impact on many young people from less advantaged backgrounds who often rely upon part time work to help fund their studies. Any additional funding will be very welcome to help us support more students at this challenging time.”

Paul Hanna added: “The prints have been published to the highest standards to create a museum quality print that, together with Lord Carloway’s signature, will appeal to the most discerning of investors and collectors of legal memorabilia. I hope the legal profession will get behind this initiative to raise funds for the Lawscot Foundation and would like to thank Lord Carloway for signing the prints and the Faculty of Advocates for its support and encouragement.”

The prints can be viewed and purchased by visiting www.hannafineart.co.uk – buyers will also receive a photograph of Lord Carloway signing the prints and a Letter of Authenticity signed by the Lord President.
