Scottish Young Lawyers' Association announces further events

The Scottish Young Lawyers’ Association has added three further events in late Spring to its ongoing programme of educational events.

Beyond the Basics: Instructing Advocates takes place in Edinburgh on Tuesday 12 May with a special focus on the instruction of counsel after the Court Reform (Scotland) Act 2014 is implemented later this Autumn.

The event will also cover how counsel may be instructed in the new Personal Injury Court. Advocates Kate Bennett, Clare Connelly and Amber Galbraithwill present – the event is supported by Compass Chambers and may count for 1 hour CPD.

Beyond the Basics: Mediation Skills will then take place in Glasgow on Thursday 21 May.

The joint event with the Young Mediators’ Group will feature experienced mediators - Alan Susskind of Harper Macleod and Jane Fender-Allison of CMS Cameron McKenna - offering their perspectives on how to get the best from mediation as an adviser.

The programme is rounded off with a social networking event on Monday 1 June, when SYLA members will be welcomed to Lyon & Turnbull’s Edinburgh auction house for a short talk from their managing director Gavin Strang followed by an informative quiz to improve auction skills.

The SYLA has also begun building for its annual conference, headlinedProgression in the Profession, which is taking place at the Grand Central Hotel in Glasgow on Monday 15 June.
