Seven new solicitor advocates appointed

Seven Scottish solicitors were admitted by the Council of the Law Society of Scotland as solicitor advocates with extended rights of audience at a ceremony yesterday.

The new solicitor advocates are: Ann Gray, COPFS, Noel Ferry, Turcan Connell, Jon Kiddie, Freelands, Fiona MacGregor, Pinsent Masons LLP, Colin Hamilton, Gillespie Macandrew LLP, Mark Hastings, BTO Solicitors LLP and Lewis Richardson, BTO Solicitors LLP.

Alison Atack, Law Society president, invited Lady Clark to administer the Declaration of Allegiance to the newly admitted solicitor advocates during the ceremony on Tuesday.

Ms Atack said: “This was my first ceremony as President and it really was an honour to be part of such a special occasion. I am delighted to celebrate the achievements of Scotland’s newest solicitor advocates and I wish them every success as they embark on the next stage of their legal careers.

“I am also pleased to learn that two solicitor advocates have been appointed as Queen’s Council by Her Majesty the Queen. Having Law Society members take up important positions such as these shows the profession and young people thinking about their career aspirations, what is possible to achieve with a legal background. Congratulations to all!”
