Three SYLA events planned for September

Three SYLA events planned for September

The Scottish Young Lawyers’ Association (SYLA) has announced three events to take place in September.

Beyond the Basics: Effective Enforcement Solutions – Thursday 2 September at 5.30pm.

The Scottish Young Lawyers’ Association is delighted to invite you to the first event of the 2021-2022 year.

In this seminar we will be looking at how you can enforce your decree or decision. This will include an overview of diligence and the pros and cons associated with each type of enforcement measure. We will explore the various diligence options and how a bespoke approach can provide the best outcomes for your clients.

Our speaker for the evening will be Alex Irvine. Alex has been a partner in Fraser Irvine Sheriff Officers LLP since 2017 prior to which he held several senior positions in another large firm of Sheriff Officers. He has been involved in the Sheriff Officer profession for nearly 30 years and is a past President of the Society of Messengers-at-Arms and Sheriff Officers. He is also a former Judge of the Scottish Legal Awards.

Thank you to Fraser Irvine Sheriff Officers for sponsoring SYLA’s new event platform.

Financial planning for the key stages in life – Tilney Group – Thursday 16 September at 5pm

No matter what stage you are at in life and career, it is important to think about your financial future. We all want to enjoy life, look after our families and hopefully retire one day but often, as busy professionals we don’t invest the time to think about our own financial planning.

In this interactive panel discussion, SYLA will joined by a team from Tilney and Smith & Williamson to highlight the key areas to consider, and actions to take, at the different stages of your life and career. Topics will include:

  • Engaging with your finances;
  • Potential impact of career break;
  • Saving for children;
  • Protection of benefits and allowances as earnings increase; and
  • Planning for retirement.

There will be the opportunity for live Q&A following the panel.

Launch Party with Fraser Irvine Sheriff Officers LLP – Wednesday 22 September at 6.30pm

*** Spaces are limited ***

The SYLA and Fraser Irvine Sheriff Officers have joined forces again to kick the year off with a launch party!

As we celebrate the joining of new members, and the coming together again after a year of virtual events… what better way to start off the SYLA calendar year with networking over a few drinks?

Fraser Irvine is a modern professional firm of Messengers-at-Arms & Sheriff Officers providing bespoke services to the Scottish legal marketplace, who offer citation, diligence and enquiry services throughout Scotland.

The firm is a collaboration of two of the most respected names in the Sheriff Officer profession; Andrew Fraser and Alex Irvine. Both partners have a strong background in delivering excellent customer service in a highly competitive environment. They are also heavily involved in the designated professional body for Officers of Court The Society of Messengers-at-Arms & Sheriff Officers and actively promote the development of the profession. Alex is the immediate Past President of SMASO and Andrew is the Vice President of SMASO.

Fraser Irvine are also celebrating as they open their new Edinburgh Office in September. It’s an exciting time for the business as they expand and grow their presence in Edinburgh, Lothian, the Borders and Fife.

Please join us at Tigerlily in Edinburgh from 6.30pm. This will be a great opportunity for our members to meet and mingle over some drinks in anticipation of what is set to be another big year for the Association!
