In this charming video, Iain Smith, partner at Keegan Smith Defence Lawyers discusses the concept of Adverse Childhood Experiences and its value for lawyers and the justice system in general.
Mr Smith delivered the talk as part of Community Justice Ayrshire’s 2019 conference: Adversity is not Destiny.
Of his clients, he says: “I ask the question ‘what has happened to you?’ rather than ‘what is wrong with you?’.
“I signpost them for help, I try not to judge them, I phone them randomly to check in.”
