WS Summer Internships 2016 – Applications Open!

“I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and I genuinely have gained a lot from it. I will be sure to recommend the internship and the WS membership to other students.” – Summer Intern (2015)

“The experience at the WS Society seriously bolstered my applications to various law firms and had a huge role to play in getting called in for interviews.” – Summer Intern (2014)

The WS Society is now welcoming applications from law students and graduates who would like to participate in the WS Summer Internship 2016 programme. An internship with a difference, now in its seventh year, the WS Internship is an incomparable opportunity to gain practical experience with an organisation whose name is instantly recognisable throughout the legal fraternity in Scotland and the rest of the UK.

The WS Internship programme offers a unique opportunity to participants to raise their profile and sharpen their research and presentation skills in preparation for the world of legal work.  The internship programme is tailored each year to cover contemporary legal issues and will include an assigned, team-based research project, usually working towards a presentation to external delegates.

“I thoroughly enjoyed my time on the internship and looking into something that my degree does not touch upon - in the form of the presentation on the recovery of costs and expenses - was both interesting and worthwhile. Exposure to the various reviews that look set to change the legal system will be invaluable when going into practice.” – Summer Intern (2014)

WS Interns will join the Society’s Professional Services team, consisting of two solicitors each with a minimum of ten years’ experience in commercial practice and the Society’s Research Principal. WS Interns will assist the Professional Services team primarily in their delivery to clients of research and information services.  The team are based in the West Library where Interns will also have the opportunity to interact with an extensive network of solicitor members from all areas of the profession on a daily basis.

Having the resources of the Signet Library at their fingertips, WS Interns can familiarise themselves with the texts and materials which will be fundamental to any career in law, while at the same time being able to experience over 500 years of legal history.

The WS Internship would be mostly suited to 3rd and 4th year students from the four year LLB undergraduate degree, 2nd year students from the accelerated LLB degree and Diploma or PEAT 1 Students.

The WS Summer Internship programme will take place in three blocks of two weeks on the following dates: 4 - 15 July, 25 July – 5 August, 15 - 26 August 2016. If you, a family member or friend would like to apply, we encourage you to send by Friday 20 May a CV and covering letter, together with a note of your preferred dates, by email or post to:
