Aberdeen lawyer raises the bar on fundraising challenge
This month, an Aberdeen lawyer will reach the halfway point in her target to run 100 kilometres in competitive racing during 2017, to raise funds for a local cancer research charity.
Liz Stewart, a partner at Stronachs LLP, is just one of a number of staff and partners taking part in various sporting events this month, to help the north-east firm reach its £20,000 fundraising target for its nominated charity, Friends of ANCHOR.
Ms Stewart will cross the 50 kilometre mark in her challenge by competing in the Simplyhealth Great Aberdeen Half Marathon next weekend.
Having already completed the Garioch half marathon, the Baker Hughes and Run Balmoral 10K races this year, Ms Stewart plans to complete the Crathes and Giant Causeway half marathon routes in September to achieve her goal.
Ms Stewart, who has been running competitively for more than 10 years said: “I’ve always enjoyed running but this year I wanted to do something a bit different as part of the firm’s efforts to raise money for Friends of ANCHOR.
“The training can be difficult to squeeze in but there are a number of us at the firm who like to exercise so we try to motivate and support each other, without getting too competitive!
“Whether it’s a walk at lunchtime or a run in the evening, team exercise is great for staff morale and mental health. It’s a further boost that we get to raise money for a fantastic local charity in the process.”
Staff from Stronachs will also take part in The Anchor Wipeout Challenge (August 19), and Ride the North (August 26 and 27) to support the charities’ efforts in recruiting a world-class cancer research team to the north east of Scotland.
