CMS is to host a free-to-attend event focused on one of the key challenges facing the UK renewable energy industry: how to solve the issue of grid connections.

The seminar, being held in Aberdeen on 19 June, includes contributions from Calum Watt, grid technical authority at Flotation Energy, who will outline his own company’s grid connection process with the recently approved Green Volt Project. Other speakers include Mark Collins of Smarter Grid Solutions, developers of Distributed Energy Resource Management System software which allows energy companies to monitor and control their portfolio of energy assets.

CMS partner, Kirsty Nurse, and her colleague Laura Sefton, a senior associate at the firm, will also set out the key steps being taken at a legislative level as well as by the National Grid and Distribution Network Operators to create a pathway for a better connected and managed electricity network.

Ms Nurse said: “This event will offer some key insights for renewables operators about one of the core challenges they currently face in developing their industry: overcoming issues with grid connection. With ScotWind and other key renewable energy initiatives progressing, the issue of how we connect these huge projects to the grid and ensure efficient transmission of electricity around the UK comes into even sharper focus.

The event takes place on Wednesday 19 June at the Aberdeen Science Centre. More details and registration information are available here.
