Abertay student makes final of national law competition
A student from Abertay University is to compete in the national finals of the British Inter-University Commercial Awareness Competition (BIUCAC) for law students.
Michael Davidson, 21, from Auchterarder is in his final year of the LLB (Hons) at Abertay.
Over the course of five rounds, BIUCAC competitors are challenged to research key topics, ranging from the FTSE 100 to worldwide economic global affairs and essential business concepts.
More than 100 students took part in the heat held at Abertay, judged by solicitor Richard Wilson of Blackadders and Professor Nicholas Grier.
Entrants were asked to show their knowledge on the stock market, business finance, the effect of Covid-19 on investment banking and recent business scandals.
Mr Davidson won a virtual work experience placement with Thorntons Solicitors and will go on to compete against students from across the UK later this month.
He said: “I’m delighted to have made it to the final round of the competition and am looking forward to testing myself against the other finalists from across the UK.
“The law degree at Abertay has been excellent and has provided me with invaluable opportunities to gain experience while studying.
“After graduating, I plan to continue onto the diploma in legal practice and then undertake a legal traineeship.”
The second and third-placed runners up in the heat received a Thorntons virtual work placement and an Amazon gift voucher from MacNabs Solicitors respectively.
Professor Grier said: “The Division of Law and the Abertay Students’ Law Society would like to extend their thanks for Thorntons Law and MacNabs for supporting this competition, and to Richard Wilson of Blackadders for acting as judge.
“We all wish Michael the best of luck in the national finals.”
Mr Wilson added: “As an Abertay graduate it was an honour to be asked to act as a judge.
“I was very impressed with the high standard of all the competitors and I wish Michael the best of luck”
