Addleshaw Goddard appoints Douglas Blyth as partner

Addleshaw Goddard has added a new partner to its dispute resolution team in Scotland with the recruitment of Douglas Blyth.

The highly experienced litigator and solicitor advocate joins from Dentons where he headed up the firm’s dispute resolution practice in Scotland and was joint lead of the UK litigation and arbitration practice group. He is ranked by Chambers and listed by Legal 500 as a leading individual.

His appointment follows shortly after that of Claire Thornber, who joined the firm in October from Weightmans. They are both based in Glasgow, alongside fellow litigation partner Alan Sinclair.

Simon Catto, head of dispute resolution in Scotland for Addleshaw Goddard, said: “Bringing in someone of Douglas’ calibre is another example of our ambition and commitment to growing our commercial litigation practice in Scotland. We already handle some of the most high-profile instructions in the country and expect to see growing demand for our services throughout next year, so it is fantastic to add another heavyweight Partner to the team.

“Douglas has great experience of growing a high-quality team and practice and will play a big part in our strategy to build our bench strength across the country.”

Mr Blyth said: “Having watched the team at Addleshaw Goddard go from strength to strength over recent years, I am delighted to be joining Simon and my fellow Partners in what promises to be an exciting time for the firm.

“I believe that Addleshaw Goddard’s full-service proposition, combined with its commitment to growth in Scotland, presents a fabulous platform for developing my practice further. The opportunity to be part of a firm with such terrific momentum, servicing such a fantastic client base with a very capable team was simply too good to turn down.”
