Addleshaw Goddard has recruited Martin Devine, a property development and investment specialist, as a partner in its real estate team in Scotland.

Mr Devine, who joins the firm from Pinsent Masons, is a prominent figure in the Scottish real estate market with wide ranging development experience spanning the office, retail, industrial, residential – particularly build to rent – and life sciences sectors.

He has extensive experience of major projects, such as advising Glasgow City Council on the proposed redevelopment of Buchanan Galleries in Glasgow to create a new 1m square foot mixed-use district in Glasgow.

Mr Devine sat on the Scottish Committee of the British Council for Offices from 2009-2022 and has been a member of the Residential & Investment Management Committee of the Scottish Property Federation since 2019. He was also a founder member of the Association for Rental Living (formerly the UKAA) Steering Group in Scotland.

Alastair Cowan, partner in the real estate team at Addleshaw Goddard, said: “We are delighted that Martin has chosen to join Addleshaw Goddard, recognising the firm’s position as leading advisers to developers and investors in the sector, as well as our commitment to the Scottish market.

“He is also a strong proponent of utilising technology to deliver the best possible service to clients, something we are renowned for, and will be a fantastic addition to our team, greatly enhancing our presence on the ground in Glasgow.”

Mr Devine said: “It’s an exciting time to be joining Addleshaw Goddard, which I know from looking on from the outside that we are already doing some of the best work in the market and growth has been really strong. The firm’s focus on innovation and transforming the way we deliver legal services through technology to work more efficiently for clients is a huge attraction.

“My experience of advising on major development and finance work and using innovative solutions to deliver those projects will complement the existing team and I am looking forward to building my practice and helping the team here continue to grow.”
