Adult film actress Stormy Daniels crowdfunds legal fees in case against Trump
The adult film actress suing Donald Trump over an alleged affair is crowdfunding her legal fees.
Stephanie Clifford, whose stage name is “Stormy Daniels”, has filed a complaint against the US president over a non-disclosure agreement which she says is now void to the extent it concerns an alleged affair between the two in 2006.
Her bid to raise the money publicly was confirmed by her lawyer last week.
She claims that Mr Trump’s attorney, Michael Cohen, paid her to remain silent and said he has intimidated her into silence.
“I need funds to pay for: attorneys’ fees; out-of-pocket costs associated with the lawsuit, arbitration, and my right to speak openly; security expenses; and damages that may be awarded against me if I speak out and ultimately lose to Mr Trump and Mr Cohen,” Ms Clifford’s page reads.
With 25 days to go, she has so far raised more than $245,500.
“I am more fortunate than many, many people in this country. And for that I am grateful. But unfortunately, I do not have the vast resources to fight Mr Trump and Mr Cohen alone. Thank you for supporting me,” the crowdfunding page states.
Mr Cohen admitted in February that he paid the actress $130,000 of his own money via a private LLC prior to the 2016 election.
