Advocate Niall McCluskey takes on first marathon in aid of human rights defenders
Advocate Niall McCluskey is running the Stirling Scottish Marathon in May in aid of Peace Brigades International and the Alliance for Lawyers at Risk.
He said: “Peace Brigades International and the Alliance for Lawyers at Risk provide protection and support to human rights defenders in Honduras, Guatemala, Mexico, Colombia, Indonesia, Kenya and Nepal. PBI works in countries where communities experience violent conflict, intimidation and repression, and where those at the forefront of human rights’ defence are at particular risk of reprisals simply for the work they do. PBI aims to create the conditions necessary for the transformation of conflicts from within the affected community: Their work includes:
“The death sentences against each and every one of us have not been carried out, only because we are not alone, because we have Peace Brigade International’s accompaniment and unconditional defence” - Francisco Campo, CREDHOS, Colombia.
Mr McCluskey hopes to raise £2,000 for PBI.
