Alex Small

Alex Small, a solicitor in Arbroath and a former honorary sheriff of Angus, has passed away at the age of 73, The Courier reports.

Mr Small was a past captain of Arbroath Golf Club and an accomplished photographer. He was born in Forfar to James Small, a railway clerk and his wife Anna.

He was educated at Arbroath High School before undertaking the LLB at Queen’s College, Dundee, as Dundee University was then known.

In 1971, he married Irene at St Margaret’s (West Kirk), Arbroath. They had three children: Carole, David and Kevin. Mr Small worked at law firm Clark and Oliver in Arbroath before qualifying in 1973. Thereafter he joined solicitors Gourlay McBain where he became senior partner until the firm’s merger with Blackadders in 2008.

In 1995 he was made an honorary sheriff and served on the bench, mainly in Arbroath but also at Forfar.

Mr Small was also an elder at St Vigeans Church and later joined Arbroath Probus Club.
