All welcome to memorial service for Professor Joe Thomson next month
A memorial service will be held on Saturday 13 October 2018, at 11am, in the Canongate Kirk, 153 Canongate, Edinburgh, to honour the life and work of Professor Joe Thomson, who passed away earlier this year. All are welcome to attend.
Professor Thomson, formerly a Scottish law commissioner, Regius Professor of Law at the University of Glasgow, and before that head of the Law School at Strathclyde University, was one of the great educators of the late 20th and early 21st centuries.
He will be remembered by generations of law students for his inspirational and thought-provoking teaching style. His infectious enthusiasm for the law touched everyone that he taught.
Professor Thomson was also a kind and generous colleague who gave freely of his time and experience to mentor and encourage junior colleagues.
His contributions to legal literature, especially in a series of textbooks written primarily for students, will continue to inform how law is taught in Scottish universities, even as direct memories fade of his warm and generous spirit.
He will be sorely missed by all who knew him, most especially his widow, Annie, who extends a welcome to all who wish to attend the memorial service.
