Amanda Wilson elected Dean of Dundee Faculty
The Faculty of Procurators and Solicitors in Dundee has elected Amanda Wilson as its new Dean. The Faculty, an organisation which dates back to 1820, held its AGM this week to appoint its new officer bearers.
For the last four years, Ms Wilson has been involved as Secretary and latterly as Vice Dean.
Vicki Bell, (procurator fiscal in Dundee) was voted in as Vice Dean and Andrew Giel (solicitor at Digby Brown in Dundee) was appointed secretary/treasurer.The Dundee Faculty is proud to have had a number of female Deans in the past, including Anika Jethwa (who just stepped down following the end of her two-year term), Elizabeth McGillivray (Bowmans) and Lesley Macdonald (Lesley Macdonald Family Law and formerly RSB Lindsays).
One of the roles of the Faculty is to represent the views of its local solicitor members, including during government consultations on proposed changes to the law.
Ms Wilson told Scottish Legal News: “At a time when lawyers are becoming increasingly more specialised in their chosen fields and as the size and nature of law firms varies greatly, the Faculty has an important role to play in ensuring that our local solicitors have a forum where they can come together and discuss issues which affect their different areas of practice and present a united front when looking to raise these issues at a national level.
“In the short term, our first task is to arrange the annual Faculty Dinner, which takes place at the Invercarse Hotel on 22 September. Tickets are £40 per head and people can contact me if they would like a ticket.”
