The unnamed 23-year-old went to the provincial court of Cantabria in Castro Urdiales to complain that her parents had refused to continue providing her with food and shelter, The Local reports.

But far from sympathetic, the judge rejected her case and said she had squandered every opportunity for employment or education.

He pointed out that the obligation on parents to look after their children until they are self-sufficient only applies if the need is not of the child’s own making.

In his judgment, he concluded that it was “the appellant’s ownbehaviour after reaching the age of maturity -behaviour legally qualifiable as laziness and lackingproductive use of time and opportunities - that has left said appellant in her current situation”.
