And finally… blow me down
A young clarinet player has been awarded over £200,000 in damages after suing his ex-girlfriend for sabotaging his scholarship.
Eric Abramovitz was offered a full scholarship from Colburn Conservatory of Music in Los Angeles, worth about £38,000 a year, but the email was intercepted by his then-girlfriend, Jennifer Lee.
Ms Lee impersonated him and refused the scholarship in a bid to stop him from leaving her, but the pair eventually broke up months later.
Mr Abramovitz did not discover the deception for some time.
Ontario Superior Court has ruled that Ms Lee must pay $350,000 (around £200,000) to Mr Abramovitz for loss of reputation, loss of education opportunity, and delay in entering his chosen profession.
Mr Justice David Corbett said the court had awarded $50,000 beyond what Mr Abramovitz asked to express the “court’s revulsion”.
