Tristan Macomber, an officer in Lake County, Florida, initially lied about what he was doing when he rear-ended another vehicle while on duty in early November 2024, local TV channel WESH reports.

Body-worn camera footage shows him throwing his phone onto the passenger seat of his police car before going to check on the other driver and apologising to her.

He told his superiors that his brakes had locked up while he was scrolling through text messages on his phone.

However, he later admitted to lying and was in fact watching what an investigation report described as “pornographic material”.

He was found to have broken the force’s rules three times – by lying, by looking at porn, and by not wearing a seatbelt.
