And finally… case to make
Swedish furniture giant IKEA is building a case against a video game developer whose new horror game is set in a furniture store.
One-man indie game studio Ziggy recently raised almost £57,000 to fund the development of its new survival horror game, The Store Is Closed.
However, lawyers for Ikea have sent the studio a cease-and-desist letter alleging that the game’s fictional “STYR” setting – including its blue-and-white colour scheme – infringes on the chain’s trademarks.
Much of the media coverage of the game has made explicit comparisons to IKEA.
IKEA has demanded that the developers “change the game and remove all indicia associated with the famous Ikea stores” within 10 days, Kotaku reports.
A spokesperson for the furniture giant in the UK subsequently said the developer had “expressed that they understand our request and agreed to make those changes”.
