And finally… classy drug
Non-psychoactive cannabis oil has been criminalised in Hong Kong as a “dangerous drug” on par with heroin.
Though derived from cannabis, CBD products are legal in most of the world and have become a multi-billion dollar industry in recent years.
Since 2019, dozens of CBD shops as well as restaurants, cafés and breweries selling CBD-infused products have popped up all over Hong Kong.
The island has now made the possession and consumption of any amount of CBD punishable by seven years in prison and a fine of 1 million Hong Kong dollars (around €116,000 or £100,000), CNN reports.
Luke Yardley, the founder of a craft brewery selling CBD-infused drinks, said: “It’s quite an extreme response to just fully ban it. I hope for the future that it might become legal again.”
