And finally… crypto-fascists
The family of Benito Mussolini have sparked controversy after demanding that the fascist’s crypt be turned into a national monument.
The Mussolini family lawyer sent a letter to the mayor of Predappio, Mussolini’s home town, calling for the tomb to be turned into a monument supported with taxpayer money and cemetery staff.
They claimed it would be in the “clear interest” of Italy and the “constant flow of devotees who come to pay homage”, The Times reports.
The town’s former left-wing mayor, Giorgio Frassineti, said: “The family want the tomb to become a national monument up there with the tomb of Garibaldi, who helped unify Italy. We are talking about a dictator who passed racial laws and ruined the country — it’s unacceptable.”
