And finally... everyone's a critic

Buskers who poorly perform the same songs again and again are effectively carrying out “psychological torture” and must be stopped, a judge has said.

The City of London Magistrates’ Court this week ordered Westminster Council to take stronger action against buskers in Leicester Square, the BBC reports.

The court sided with Global Radio, whose staff said they were working in cupboards to escape the “industrially amplified daily concerts” outside their office.

“While the volume is the principal mischief, it is clear that the nuisance is exacerbated by the repetition and poor quality of some of the performances,” the judge said.

He went on to compare this to “unlawful but effective psychological torture techniques”.

The judge criticised Westminster Council for having “failed to act to stop the nuisance” and ordered it to take action.
