And finally… fortune favours the brave
A Melbourne resident received a windfall of $10.5 million (£6.2m) when she was accidentally transferred the sum by cryptocurrency trading platform Crypto.com.
The error happened as a routine $100 (£59) refund was being processed to her account by the crypto platform, but the company only noticed the mistake seven months later. The firm took legal action against Thevamanogari Manivel in the Victorian Supreme Court and was able to freeze her bank account in February, but not before she purchased a four-bedroom home for $1.35m (£800,000), The Guardian reports.
Since purchasing the property, Ms Manivel has transferred ownership to her sister, Thilagavathy Gangadory, who lives in Malaysia. A further judgment found in favour of Crypto.com compelling Ms Gangadory to sell the property and pay interest of $27k (£16k) – in addition to the money from the sale – to Crypto.com, whose slogan is “fortune favours the brave”.
