The “narco wig” was discovered by police at Rafael Núñez International Airport in Colombia last week, according to CBS News.

Some 220 grams of cocaine was allegedly concealed inside the sophisticated hairpiece, with a street value of around €10,000.

The passenger was heading to Amsterdam and the drugs would have ended up on the European market.

Cartagena police commander General Gelver Yesid Peña said: “Organised crime groups are exploiting young people, falsely suggesting they can easily bypass our security measures. However, this case demonstrates that is not true.”
