And finally… it takes a village
A village has come under the global spotlight after adopting a new “digital detox” from 7pm to 8.30pm every evening.
A siren marks the beginning of the detox period in Mohityanche Vadgaon, a small village in India’s western Maharashtra state, during which all people are asked to set aside their mobile phones and other electronic devices.
Vijay Mohite, the village leader, said locals have taken to the scheme and now “focus on reading, studying, writing and conversations” in the evenings, The Economic Times reports.
A local committee “has been set up to monitor if the initiative is being implemented”, he added.
The initiative has proven so popular that other local villages have reportedly begun to introduce similar policies.
