Ban This Book, written by Alan Gratz and published in 2017, is about a young girl who starts a secret banned book club in her school.

The book is now no longer available in the Indian River county school district in Florida because of a parent’s complaint, The Guardian reports.

The school board voted 3-2 in favour of banning the text because it teaches “rebellion of school-board authority”.

Mr Gratz said: “They banned the book because it talks about the books that they have banned and because it talks about book banning.

“It feels like they know exactly what they’re doing and they’re somewhat ashamed of what they’re doing and they don’t want a book on the shelves that calls them out.”
