The Russian republic’s culture ministry has declared that “all musical, vocal and choreographic works should correspond to a tempo of 80 to 116 beats per minute”, The Moscow Times reports.

The move effectively bans western nightclub music, though many genres will be largely unaffected.

Chechen ruler Ramzan Kadyrov said music must “conform to the Chechen mentality” and Chechen artists must make any necessary changes by June.

“Borrowing musical culture from other peoples is inadmissible,” he added.
