Special enclosures in Lopburi – around 100 miles north-east of Bangkok – are used to manage the local monkey population.

One of these enclosures broke open on Saturday, unleashing around 200 primates who are said to have rampaged through the town, The Straits Times reports.

Police captain Somchai Seedee said officers sealed all of the doors and windows of their station out of fears the monkeys would enter in search of food, potentially destroying important police property in the process.

While the attack eventually subsided, a dozen monkeys were still on the station’s roof as of yesterday, according to local media.
