And finally… no meal no deal

Olufade Adekoya told a courtroom in Lagos that his wife of 25 years, Olusola, served him his meals late.

Speaking to the newspaper Vanguard, he said his wife “had failed in her matrimonial obligations”.

Mr Adekoya added that he had warned her numerous times about the problem but that she did not listen.

He opined: “there is no point in harbouring a wife that makes me hungry” and told the court he was totally fed up with her.

But Olusola denied the story and said the real reason was that her husband wanted to marry someone else.

Court president Olu Adebiyi granted the divorce, saying: “The court had tried several times to reconcile their differences, but all efforts proved abortive.”

While this is the first divorce in Nigeria based on a wife serving meals late it is not the most unusual.

Nigerian website Sugar Daily has compiled a number of strange divorces including one in which a man divorced 82 of his 86 wives to avoid being evicted.

In another case a man, 32, divorced his wife after discovering she had been wearing a “butt pad” to give herself the appearance of a more substantial rear.
