The woman spat out the bag after taking a bite and reported the incident to local police in Española, New Mexico, who confirmed it contained cocaine.

An employee at the drive-through restaurant was arrested after police reviewed CCTV footage and saw a man who appeared to be “frantically searching for something he lost”.

David Salazar admitted to police that it was his cocaine and it had ended up in the hot dog inadvertently, KOB 4 reports.

Other customers were bemused by the situation. One reportedly said: “That’s kind of crazy. I just got an ice cream. I hope we’re good.”
