And finally… test of metal
Hundreds of official Harry Potter replica swords have been recalled in Japan after they were discovered to be illegal weapons.
Over 350 swords have been sold at the Warner Bros Studio Tour Tokyo, billed as “the largest indoor Harry Potter attraction in the world”, since it opened in May 2023.
The full-sized replicas of Godric Gryffindor’s sword, which appears in a number of the Harry Potter movies, are 86cm long and fixed to a wooden plaque.
Japanese authorities have now told the company that the replicas are too sharp and are legally classified as actual swords, the BBC reports.
Under Japanese law, swords – like firearms – must be registered with the authorities and are otherwise illegal to own.
Warner Bros Studio Japan LLC has published a recall notice for the swords and invited owners to contact them for assistance and a refund.
