Perth Sheriff Court was forced to delay a case after Crown Office staff admitted they couldn’t understand the accused’s Geordie accent.
Denis Boyd, 38, is on trial over allegations that he sexually assaulted a woman in Perth last year.
His solicitor, Nicky Brown, told the court that he had taken part in a recorded interview with police - but staff were unable to transcribe the interview due to his “very, very strong Geordie accent”.
Prosecutor John Malpass said “large tracts of the interview” were missing.
Sheriff Gillian Wade agreed to schedule an extra day in the case, and promised that she was “not going to get anyone into trouble” for the mishap.
The court clerk reportedly told Mr Boyd that the delay would allow “for the police interview to effectively be translated”.
