The man was sacked by Kyoto City in Japan after he was caught stealing the paltry sum of ¥1,000 in 2022.

After being denied his pension and fired he sued the city but lost at first instance. That ruling was overturned on appeal.

Last week, however, Japan’s Supreme Court restored the original decision, ruling the man’s conduct undermined the public trust in the system.
