Anderson Strathern launches Advocacy Unit
Anderson Strathern has launched a new unit to provide specialist advocacy and legal opinions. The unit is led by Robert Carr, who has just stepped down after 12 years as chair of the firm. An experienced litigator, having practised in Scotland’s courts for over 30 years and having been a solicitor advocate for over 20 years, Mr Carr will lead a team of more than 30 advocacy and legal experts.
The expertise of one of the unit’s solicitor advocates, Dominic Scullion, was recognised at the recent Scottish Legal Awards when he was presented with the “Rising Star of the Year” award.
The unit’s solicitor advocates have expertise in a wide range of areas including commercial litigation, property, personal injury and negligence. The unit also includes the firm’s Law Society of Scotland accredited experts, with several already experienced in writing expert reports and appearing as expert witnesses in complex court cases.
The areas of law cover everything from charities to planning, trusts, family, employment and competition.
Mr Carr said: “I am delighted to be involved in bringing the Advocacy and Legal Opinions Unit into being and to be working with so many skilled lawyers.
“It is a way in which we can service the needs of our clients and, where appropriate, also offer external services as expert witnesses and to legal firms throughout Scotland. It is an exciting project.”
Managing partner Murray McCall, added: “It is fantastic to see our former chair Robert Carr lead such a prestigious new unit for the firm and I am thrilled that Dominic Scullion has been recognised as the Rising Star of the Year in what I am certain is going to be a stellar career in advocacy.
“As a major full service law firm with experts in every area, we really are ideally placed to provide the expertise which clients and other legal firms are looking for.”
